About us

Our priority is to deliver first class client service.

Howard & Stapleton was established in 1986 when the practices of Alan Howard and Graham Stapleton joined together. Alan Howard retired in 2000 but his daughter continues to work for us. Many of our clients are from Rochford, Southend on Sea and the surrounding areas but we also have clients from around London and some even farther afield.

We are a small practice with a wealth of experience and we pride ourselves on delivering a friendly yet professional service to all clients, whatever their size or sector. In addition to traditional auditing, accounting and tax services we also provide advice on how to improve and develop your business. We are members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, one of the leading professional bodies in the UK. We are regulated by them and this ensures that we are operating to the highest standards and are regularly updating and extending our technical knowledge.

Fee protection insurance

As part of our service to our clients, we operate a fee protection insurance scheme. Membership, which is optional, ensures that our clients are covered against the cost of virtually all HM Revenue & Customs instigated enquiries. We have a good track record in defending our clients again HMRC investigations - case link. This was a case that we fought for some years before eventually establishing that HMRC had acted wholly unreasonably, forcing them to meet all of our client’s costs in defending themselves.
